5 Days Uganda Birding Safaris experience, Uganda is a proven birding haven with over 1000 bird species from east and central Africa, therefore this trip will take you to several birding destinations across the country as we visit Mabamba swamp for shoebills on our first birding day out of the five days then proceed to Murchison falls national park more bird species to encounter.
Day 1: Transfer from Airport to booked accommodation
Arrive in Uganda through Entebbe International Airport and stay in either Kampala or Entebbe.
Day 2: Drive to Mabamba Swamp
The wetland is the newly discovered home for the most sought-after bird, the shoebill. Birding is done on the canoes in marsh channels; other birds to spot out include white-winged warblers, papyrus gonoleks, yellow-backed weavers, northern brown-throated weavers, blue-headed coucals, swamp flycatchers, African purple swamphens, African water rails, common moorhens, lesser jacanas, African pygmy geese, white-faced whistling ducks, squacco herons, blue-breasted bee-eaters, winding cisticolas, Goliath herons, and black crakes. Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park.
This happens to be Uganda’s largest park that protects a chunk of untamed African savannah and is bisected by the mighty river Nile. Where the world’s longest river explodes violently through a narrow cleft in the rift valley escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 43m below.
Day 4: Murchison Falls National Park
Take a boat along the Victoria Nile to the delta at Lake Albert. This is home to hippos and many enormous Nile crocodiles, as well as special birds, which include shoebills, secretary birds, Abyssinian rollers, ground hornbills, pied kingfishers, red-throated bee-eaters lining the banks, goliath herons, saddle-billed storks, sacred ibises, fulvous whistling-ducks, and Senegal and water thick-knees. Black-headed and long-toed lapwing, little bittern, osprey, red-necked falcon, blue-breasted bee-eater, vinaceous dove, and grosbeak weaver, then cross for birding at the top of the falls. Look out for white-fronted black chats, rock pratincoles, white-crested turacos, grey woodpeckers, darters and giant kingfishers, red-throated bee-eaters, red-shouldered cuckoo-shrikes, western violet-backed sunbirds, black-headed gonoleks, chestnut-crowned sparrow-weavers, brown twins pots, bar-breasted firefinches, red-winged pytilias and red-winged grey warblers, Bruce’s pigeons, and ospreys.
Day 5: Game drive, then en route to Kampala
Whole-day game drive on the northern bank of the Victoria Nile. Birds recorded here include Egyptian plover, shoebill, red-winged grey warbler, rock pratincole, secretary bird, bat hawk, Denham’s bustard, Pel’s fishing owl, white-crested turaco, vinaceous dove,negal thick-knee, chestnut-crowned sparrow-weaver, carmine bee-eater, nightjars (pennant-winged & standard-winged), and white-rumped canary. Then drive back to Kampala or Entebbe for a flight back home.
