5 Days Mgahinga Gorilla Safari takes you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, which is located in the southwestern parts of the country as part of the great Virunga volcanoes that span from the DRC, Rwanda, and Uganda. This has basically enabled free movement of some trans-border guerrilla groups that are freely tracking across the border boundaries. Therefore, a safari to this park will enable you to encounter the other rare primate, the golden monkeys. Then visit Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mburo National Park on the return route to Kampala.
Day 1: Drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
The safari starts with a long drive to Mgahinga National Park for a gorilla trekking experience. On reaching the park, we check in at the safari lodge booked for accommodation and then relax as we also get ready for the amazing gorilla trek.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience
Drive to the briefing center as they get you through the trekking do’s and don’ts, and then after you will be assigned different gorilla groups for the gorilla trekking experience into the jungle.
Day 3: Uganda Batwa Cultural Trail
The Batwa (pygmies) cultural trail is guided by local natives who will take you to the Batwa settlement community that initially occupied the park as hunters and fruit gatherers; therefore, this cultural trail will enable you to learn about the Batwa history and their current lifestyle as they will be demonstrating their traditional ways of living that include hunting, fruit gathering, honey gathering, and how they light fire in their traditional way, plus a visit to Garama Cave that happens to be a spiritual and cultural site for the Batwa.
Day 4: Hiking Mt. Gahinga, Mt. Sabyinyo, or Mt. Muhavura
Hiking one of these amazing mountains in the park is really epic; on getting to the top, you stand a higher chance of viewing the three countries, i.e., Uganda, Rwanda, and DRC.
Day 5: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park via Lake Bunyonyi
On our return journey to Kampala, we shall drive to Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mburo National Park for a game drive and then later proceed to Kampala or Entebbe airport for your flight.
